Biography

Legend has it that in ancient times, when the five tribes of Wakanda were locked in a violent struggle for control of a rare alien metal found only in their lands, Bashenga was a warrior shaman. One day, the goddess Bast appeared to him in a vision and led him to a potent herb that had grown from soil infused with the metal's unique properties.

Bast instructed Bashenga to consume the herb, which granted him the power to unify all the warring tribes, except for one, into a formidable nation. As a result of his vision and leadership, Bashenga became the first king of Wakanda. Later on, he fell in love with a Wakandan woman who would become his queen.

Legacy

Following his passing, the rule of Wakanda was passed down through the descendants of Bashenga, known as the Golden Tribe. To honor his memory, Mount Bashenga and Bashenga's Courtyard were both named after the legendary king.

A statue was also erected in the Golden City, featuring Bashenga alongside his beloved queen to commemorate their contributions to Wakanda's history and culture.

Powers and abilites

Bashenga's powers and abilities were greatly enhanced after consuming the Heart-Shaped Herb, imbuing him with physical attributes comparable to a super soldier. His powers were long-lasting, only being negated if he consumed a serum to counteract the herb. Some of his enhanced abilities included:

  • Enhanced Strength: Bashenga's strength was greatly increased beyond the peak of human potential, moving into the realm of superhuman strength.
  • Enhanced Durability: Bashenga's body was much more durable than an ordinary human being.
  • Enhanced Speed: Bashenga could move at speeds beyond the limits of human potential, reaching early levels of superhuman speed.
  • Enhanced Agility: Bashenga's agility was exceptional, surpassing that of Olympic athletes. He had outstanding balance, equilibrium, flexibility, and dexterity.
  • Enhanced Stamina: Bashenga's musculature produced fewer fatigue toxins during physical activity, granting him exceptional endurance and lung capacity beyond that of normal humans.
  • Enhanced Reflexes: Bashenga's reflexes were beyond human potential and superior to those of the finest athletes.
  • Regenerative Healing Factor: Bashenga possessed a fast healing capability that allowed for an extraordinarily efficient recovery, thanks to his conditioned metabolism.

Abilities

Bashenga was a highly skilled martial artist, having honed his skills as one of Wakanda's best warriors and its King. He was adept in various forms of combat and was considered a master of martial arts.

In addition to his fighting prowess, Bashenga was also a master tactician. As the King of Wakanda, he held significant political power and influence over his people. He used his strategic mind and leadership abilities to unite all but one of the tribes of Wakanda, creating a confederation that has endured for thousands of years. His legacy as a skilled tactician and leader was felt for generations after his passing.

Who is Olumo Bashenga in Marvel Comics?

Olumo Bashenga is a character in Marvel Comics, and his story is closely tied to the history of Wakanda and the Black Panther. He lived during the Bronze Age in Wakanda and was a shaman warrior belonging to the Panther Tribe. At that time, Wakanda's tribes were not united, but Bashenga predicted a cosmic energy explosion from the Mena Ngai (the Great Mound), which brought vibranium to Wakanda.

To deal with this cosmic energy, Bashenga forged two powerful weapons: the Skybreaker and the Spear of Bashenga. After tossing these weapons away, they landed in the western part of Wakanda, leading to the creation of the city of Birnin Bashenga. Later, Bashenga had a vision from the god Bast, guiding him to the heart-shaped herb.

Upon consuming the herb, Bashenga gained the powers of the Panther god and became the Black Panther. His significant role was in uniting the tribes of Wakanda into the Kingdom of Wakanda, serving as its first king. Bashenga's legacy includes the creation of revered weapons, the formation of the city of Birnin Bashenga, and his pivotal role in the history of Wakanda.

It's worth noting that while Bashenga is often referred to as the First Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the comics also acknowledge an earlier Black Panther named Mosi in the year 1,000,000 B.C. Mosi played a similar role in uniting Wakanda and harnessing the powers of the heart-shaped herb. Both characters contribute to the rich tapestry of Wakanda's history and the legacy of the Black Panther.
